We celebrated Thanksgiving with our church on Tuesday evening (we always have a special Thanksgiving service the Tuesday before Thanksgiving) and then on Wednesday with our children (less one who was in Lebanon at the time). That allowed us to be leisurely on Thanksgiving Day – no big meal to prepare and clean up. It also allowed us to have some leftover turkey before we hit the road to Houston.
We didn’t have to get up early, but we did. We were excited to get our bags packed and the car loaded. Then we wanted to spend some additional time with the children.
We chose the time we left, early afternoon, because we were hoping traffic would be light. We figured most everyone would already be where they were going to be for Thanksgiving. While traffic was much lighter than usual, we did still hit a few high-traffic spots.
After we arrived at the hotel, we took in our overnight bag (no need to take those big bags in with us). We then unpacked so that would be done and headed out for dinner. After dinner we arrived back at the hotel and had a nice quiet evening reading and watching the television.
We also made sure the hotel had our late check-out time on file, which they did. We wanted to be sure we could take our time in the morning, since we weren’t in any rush.
To be continued…
